Sometimes the best designs start with a challenge—and this one certainly did. For my final project in the R.I.D.E. Exam through the Designer Society of America, the assignment was simple on paper… but packed with possibilities:

  • Create a 24x24 foot room

  • Include windows, an entry, and a fireplace

  • Meet the “make-believe” clients’ must-haves: seating for 8, a TV, a desk, and a space to play cards

As the designer behind Homebody Designed, I knew I wanted to bring in my signature approach: comfort, function, and timeless personal style. That’s how Rosemary Refuge was born.

A cozy, layered living space with rich textures and thoughtful details

A Cozy Gathering Space Built for Real Life

This room is designed to feel grounded, inviting, and layered—because even in a conceptual project, good design should feel like home.

  • The deep, rosemary green walls create warmth and depth without overpowering the space

  • A leather sectional offers generous seating for 8, making it perfect for relaxing or entertaining

  • The fireplace wall anchors the room, with built-in shelving adding both function and visual interest

  • A desk by the windows offers natural light for work or creative time

  • The card table near the windows invites game nights and casual gatherings

Intentional Layout for Function & Flow

The floor plan was key to making the space work.

  • A central seating area for conversation and comfort

  • A tucked-away desk space that feels separate, but connected

  • Room for circulation, keeping the space airy and accessible

  • The card table strategically placed near windows to maximize natural light

Good design should support real life, not just look good on paper. That’s why every element had to earn its place in this layout.

Material selections for Rosemary Refuge — grounding tones, natural textures, and timeless elements.

Why I Named It Rosemary Refuge

I chose the name Rosemary Refuge as a nod to both the color palette and the feeling I wanted to create.

The walls are painted a deep rosemary green—a shade that feels rooted in nature, grounding, and timeless. To me, rosemary evokes both comfort and resilience—qualities that align with the kind of spaces I love to design.

This material board reflects those values:

  • Warm, earthy textures layered with natural wood tones

  • Deep green walls paired with neutral trim for contrast

  • A leather sectional for durability and everyday comfort

  • A rug with organic patterns that grounds the space

  • Subtle brass accents for warmth and a lived-in feel

  • Textiles and accessories that bring personality without overwhelming the design

Final Thoughts

This project wasn’t just about fulfilling requirements—it was about creating a space that feels like a true refuge. That’s what I bring to every project at Homebody Designed—comfort, functionality, and timeless spaces that reflect you.
